Claremont Modern Folk Dance is committed to ensuring that our dances are a welcoming, inclusive, and comfortable environment for everyone regardless of factors such as gender identity, sexual orientation, physical appearance, socioeconomic status, and race/ethnicity.
All dancers are expected to abide by the norms of contra dance etiquette, including:
Dancers who violate these norms or otherwise severely detract from the quality of our dance environment may be asked to leave or, in the most extreme cases, banned from our dances.
If you have had an uncomfortable experience at one of our dances, or if there is something you feel we could change to improve our dance environment, we encourage you to come talk to us. We want to help.
All dancers are expected to abide by the norms of contra dance etiquette, including:
- Complying with all instructions issued by the caller and the dance organizers
- Dancing and behaving in a manner meant to make other dancers feel comfortable (respecting personal space, indicated boundaries, etc.)
- Obtaining consent for more elaborate or intimate embellishments/variations (such as dips and close swings)
- Dancing, to the best of one's ability, in a safe and controlled manner, and only dancing when sober
- Maintaining basic personal hygiene
- Abstaining from wearing scented products (due to allergens concerns)
- Respecting the physical space of the dance hall
